3 favourite spots for a dose of Vitamin Sea
Tarrawanna local Belinda and her family are real nature lovers and are currently building their own wildlife haven in their garden. I asked her to tell us a bit about her family and their 3 favourite spots to get their dose of Vitamin Sea.
Tarrawanna local Belinda and her family are real nature lovers and are currently building their own wildlife haven in their garden. I asked her to tell us a bit about her family and their 3 favourite spots to get their dose of Vitamin Sea.

We’re a small family of three; an Indonesian, an Australian, and a seven-year-old combo of the two. We moved to Wollongong eight years ago from South East Sulawesi where I had spent the last seven years as an education consultant, teaching scuba diving to local marine biology students, the local Search and Rescue, and the occasional tourist who braved the numerous plane flights and boat rides to get to the small island.
We settled up in the escarpment in Tarrawanna where we love to blend into our local surroundings and, with the help of the Growing Illawarra Natives community, we are constantly adding to the biodiversity of our yard, with the odd veggie growing success here and there. When we're not down getting our hit of Vitamin Sea, you'll find us swinging in our backyard hammock talking to the birds, skinks and the bees.
Our 3 favourite spots to get our Vitamin Sea include:

1. Sandon Point Rock Pools
Along with Coal Coast Discovery Days Bingo, Sandon Point Rock Pools saved our sanity during lockdown. Not only is it stunningly beautiful when you're glancing out to sea, but down on your hands and knees, squinting into the rock pools, is where the real magic is, AND NUDIBRANCHS (a family favourite find!) Doesn't matter what sort of mood we're in, Sandon always welcomes us with refreshing waves, and the odd high five from a curious octopus.

2. Towradgi Ocean Pool
The closest hit of Vitamin Sea to our home, this is our favourite place to swim in the colder months. And the glistening sunrises remind us of how fortunate we are to live in such an abundantly beautiful spot.

3. Bushrangers Bay, Bass Point Reserve
Snorkelling with Grey Nurse Sharks was a family highlight this last summer at Bushrangers Bay, and we look forward to exploring that spot more and more now that our seven-year-old loves it too!
We are particularly passionate about marine animal welfare, and keeping our oceans clean (something we used to teach in schools in Sulawesi). So while we're getting our Vitamin Sea you'll often see us walking around with an old rice sack; not to collect dinner, but to Take 3+ for the Sea!

Sampai jumpa! Ajang, Belinda, & Zakiah x
Thanks so much for sharing your favourite local places Belinda and fam. Can I be your plus one at Bushranger’s this summer?
