Australia's first Camp Abilities set to be a Tops event

The official date and venue have been set for the very first Camp Abilities Australia for young people with vision impairment: January 10 to 15, 2027 at The Tops Conference Centre, Stanwell Tops.

In one of the most exciting developments, Dr Lauren Lieberman, founder of Camp Abilities USA, will be joining us at camp! She will have a small team of experienced colleagues and coaches who will be mentoring the volunteer coaches at the camp and sharing their expertise on delivering an adaptive sports camp for children who are blind or have low vision.

The sports program is taking shape and so far will include:

• Judo – led by Paralympian Taylor Gosens
• Stand up Paddleboarding – led by Rebecca Dunning of Stand Up Paddle Boarding Shellharbour
• Cycling – Tandem bikes to be supplied by Geoff Stratton and Peter Meers from Exsight Tandems Illawarra
• Goalball, Blind Football and Blind Tennis will be delivered by Blind Sports Australia

There will be some fitness, fun in the water, a couple of exciting surprises and a fun evening program, too.

We have partnered with the University of Wollongong and the University of New South Wales who have invited physical education students to become one-on-one coaches for our young athletes.
