Dozens of local primary and high-school students are rehearsing to perform at the much loved Helensburgh Country Fair this month.

The event – on Saturday, 24 October – features art, craft and food stalls, as well as community stands, including the popular Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire Service, Ambulance and Police displays.

“The Helensburgh Country Fair is a relaxed atmosphere where people can learn more about the local community, enjoy a Lions Club sausage sizzle and be entertained with rides and shows,” said Helensburgh Lions Club's president, Rod Peppernell.

The Lions Club has been fundraising all year to raise enough money to run the fair, which is also supported by Peabody Metropolitan Mine.

Kids can enjoy carnival rides such as the Pirate Ship and swinging chairs, with a petting zoo and face painting.

A highlight of the day is the entertainment and this year the line-up is packed with locals. Helensburgh Public School band will open the proceedings, following by the school choir. Local Zumba dancers will entice members of the public to join them for some fitness and fun, and later in the afternoon, Helensburgh’s own Sam Vukelic will perform.

The Fair will close with tunes from a local youth rock band, HELLRAISER.

“It’s going to be a great day and we’d love 2508 residents to come and join in the fun,” said Rod. “Make sure you buy a raffle ticket because we have some great prizes, which will be drawn at the end of the day.”

The Helensburgh Lions Club is a small but passionate club dedicated to supporting healthy community in 2508. Fundraising BBQs support community activities like the Helensburgh Country Fair, celebrations at Easter, and this year the club has made a donation to support the annual Helensburgh Combined Churches Christmas Carols.

“Helensburgh is a great place to live and a wonderful community to be part of,” said Rod. “If you’re passionate about your community, and can donate a few hours a month to help at a sausage sizzle, or at our other events, please get in contact!”
