We’re celebrating AusMusic Month this November with a homage to Wollongong’s music scene, live music performances featuring some of Illawarra’s best up-and-coming talent, and band t-shirt sales!
AusMusic Month is an annual celebration that encourages everyone to support Australian music makers. That means listening to and supporting homegrown artists and our Australian music industry.
Friday 19 November is also AusMusic T-Shirt Day - the perfect excuse to show-off your favourite Aus Music t-shirt! You can pick up a new shirt and support local musicians by visiting the Music Farmers Pop-Up Store in the Creative Container during AusMusic Month.
Wollongong City Council Community Cultural Development Worker Shannon Kennedy said that Aus Music Month was a great way to encourage more people to enjoy and discover Australian artists.
“Wollongong and the Illawarra is a bit of a hotbed for up-and-coming musicians, and we have a rich legacy of live music,” Mr Kennedy said.
“We have some fantastic local musicians playing here in our city and this AusMusic Month we’ve curated a couple of great events to inspire people to listen to more local music. One of the activities is an exhibition in the Creative Container in the Arts Precinct which offers a visceral homage to Wollongong’s gritty and down-to-earth music scene. This exhibition was curated by multi-media artist, musician and graphic designer, Eloise Cleary, and renowned music photographer, Chris Frape.
“We’re also bringing local music to our city with a series of live music performances curated by The Illawarra Music Foundry, who usually host the UOW UniBar Open Mic Night. Be sure to check out Orlando Bardevski, Grace Mae, Kane Calcite and many more local rising stars.”
