Barry Thompson reports from the Tradies Social Golf Club

St Patrick may have cleared the snakes from Ivan’s native Ireland but his encounter with a red-bellied black reminded him that he was in Australia. I don’t agree that his forlorn card was due to the shock encounter. The snake appeared on the 12th, and Ivan’s game was in tatters long before that.

Hayden Overton won with 43 Stableford points, Craig Murphy (39) clinched second, and Preso Terry (36) took third, although rumour has it there may have been marker creep involved. Dave Astill won the Helensburgh Driving Range Bucket of Balls voucher. Results in the first round of our Match Play comp were: Mick d Gary (1 up), Geoff won a coin toss over Kynan, Terry bested Rod (2 up, and I suspect this may be the reason for the above rumour), and Hayden beat John (8 and 6).

We welcomed Neil Wotton who handed in his first card to the whims of Mick the Merciless. It was also great to see Gavin Sinclair back from injury.

Our next round – May 16 at Boomerang (7am tee-off) – is a stroke event and the first round of the Club Championships. Please arrive early.

Thanks to our sponsors, Tradies, Helensburgh Butchery, Gallardo’s Pizzeria, and Helensburgh Driving Range.

Robert ‘Indy’ Jones reports from Helensburgh Sunday Social Golf Club

On another fine day at Boomerang Golf Course, we welcomed Gary Evans, and the returning Dave Morris and Kyle Brown.

A stableford event to which Rob Carter gets to engrave his name on the Joe Doherty Mug, wiping holes and complaining to the end, scored 37 to take the Christian’s Premium Meats voucher followed by Frank Morgan (34) who received Bunnings spending money. Nathan Lerond in 3rd (32) collected the Helensburgh Golf Range prize and Daniel G. scooped FATOE.

Chuckie, Pikey, Hodgey, Peter G., Rob C., Dave Morris, Frank Morgan shared on-course rewards, and the Club won three holes to keep the treasury afloat. The 19th had a warm feel about it with spicy burgers to assist beer consumption and sales.

Thanks to our sponsors Christian’s Premium Meats and Helensburgh Driving Range.

Our upcoming events are: May 3, June 14, and July 5 –all 8am tee-offs. Call Tony (0418 863 100) to register your attendance and cart requirements on the Tuesday ahead of the date of our next event.

Indy signing off: Golfers struggle to count past 5 but their greatest handicap is the ability to add correctly.
