Ocean swimming season has begun, with full water safety provided by Coalcliff SLSC
For many of us, the appeal of ocean swimming comes with an understandable concern about water safety.
Coalcliff Surf Lifesaving Club's Ocean Swim Club offers swimmers something particularly valuable: the opportunity to swim regularly in the ocean between October and April with full water safety provided by Coalcliff SLSC.
Launching its fifth year, proudly sponsored by Equilibrium Healthcare, the ocean swim club is focused on participation and social connection rather than competition, and welcomes swimmers aged 16 and over who want to build their ocean skills, fitness and confidence in a supportive community environment. Sessions help swimmers become more comfortable negotiating the surf break, develop their technique and gain experience in different conditions.
What makes the club special is its dedicated water-safety. Swims are backed by the club's surf lifesavers and resources including IRB, jet ski and rescue-board paddlers, and this year we're lucky to have our very own drone operator too. Swims start at 11am and the course is set according to the conditions on the day, with all swimmers attending a safety briefing before entering the water.
For people who love the ocean but are conscious of the risks of swimming alone or in an informal group, the support we offer is a significant benefit. You still experience the freedom and enjoyment of ocean swimming, but as part of an organised club with trained lifesavers.

The 2026–27 season runs from 11 October 2026 to 18 April 2027 with swims roughly every fortnight. Joining is just $60 for the season.
