The Thirroul Village Committee (TVC) joined many stallholders at the Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival on Sunday, 29 March. It was a brilliant, sun-filled day with heaps of people wandering around checking out the stalls, entertainment, food and rides that are a regular feature at the festival. The TVC had a lot of visitors to their stall which was fantastic and thanks is extended to those who helped out at the stall.

During the day, TVC members captured residents’ thoughts on what they would like to see or have improved around Thirroul. These have been fed back to Wollongong City Council in the hope that we can see some of the ideas actioned. Please find below a summary of these suggestions:

  • Improved lighting and resurfacing of the length of the Thirroul Beach promenade for safety and greater security
  • Under cover picnic and BBQ areas for the south end of Thirroul Beach parkland
  • Restoration of the Amy monument and relocation to a more suitable location
  • Walkway from McCauleys Estate to Thirroul Railway Station via Thomas Gibson Park with lighting for night time use. More lighting on the streets of Thirroul
  • Exercise equipment in the beach park
  • New fence around Telstra Telephone Exchange building
  • Disability chair lift for Thirroul Pool and disability access/mat and chair for Thirroul Beach
  • Restore/renovate Thirroul Pool. Similar to Port Kembla pool – embrace the beautiful view instead of a wall. Port Kembla pool is awesome!
  • Lighting on the commuter carpark close to LHD
  • Restoration of the footpath in front of the Community Centre near the fig tree that was earlier damaged by water. Repair work is inadequate as it is now a dangerous trip hazard.
  • Pedestrian islands so people can cross LHD safely – particularly the northern end of Thirroul near South Sailor (Henley Road and Cochrane Road)
  • More murals
  • Library open for longer hours
  • The new shared pathway at Thomas Gibson Park amenities block is an accident zone. People using the toilets may be hit by E-Bikes as there is a blind spot at the corner of the building
  • Skatepark, Skatepark, Skatepark, Skatepark, Skatepark ASAP!!!
  • Pedestrian crossing over Bulli Pass and footpath
  • All weather soccer pitch
  • Another dog park as the number of dogs off-leash in on-leash areas are increasing
  • Find a way to direct traffic up the escarpment
  • Traffic reduction in Thirroul Village
  • Festoon lights, or bunting permanently across LHD in the village e.g. outside Anita’s. This would increase the vibe in the town.

TVC will meet on Sunday, May 24

The next TVC meeting will be held on Sunday, 24 May 2026 commencing at 4pm at TRIPS Hall, in Railway Parade, Thirroul.
