Every month, Banksia Bushcare's Kieran Tapsell shares his Tree of the Month with the Illawarra Flame. The Banksia Bushcare group has done an outstanding job in Stanwell Park, including weeding, tree planting and creating an outdoor gallery with giant "nests" made of sticks and egg artworks decorated by local preschoolers, Bushcare volunteers and artists.
In 2022, Gardening Australia featured the Banksia Bushcare site and you can watch that episode here.

A council spokesperson provided this update on the Bushcare volunteer situation:
"Wollongong City Council is proud of the work Bushcare volunteers do to regenerate and care for natural areas on community land.
"Bushcare volunteer numbers were down post-Covid, but we’re already seeing a steady increase, which is fantastic.
"Given we have a number of new people in our teams and the disruption of Covid, we’re taking the opportunity to have more regular contact with our volunteers.
"This may involve getting in touch with our broad network of volunteers, offering safety advice and providing training and support to build skills in subjects like plant identification, weed control, conservation and animal habitats.
"We have more than 50 Bushcare groups across Wollongong and new volunteers are always welcome!
"Email bushcare@wollongong.nsw.gov.au or call (02) 4227 7111."
