Just 3 shows a year recoups cost of SPAT membership
Stanwell Park Arts Theatre (SPAT) membership fees are now three months overdue. SPAT’s annual membership fees were due January 1 but due to the hiatus over summer holidays, only a handful of people remembered. If you are involved in any capacity in any of our shows, membership is mandatory as all members are covered by our Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance. Yearly membership is a modest $15 for adults and $10 for children and young people under 17 years. Members receive a $5 discount to all our shows, so if you see three shows in the year, the discounts pay for your membership. To pay your membership go to www.spat.org.au, click on membership and follow the prompts
Bush Dance moved to May
In our last article we said that a bush dance would be held sometime in March. That date has now been changed to Saturday evening, May 30 to allow more time for the musicians and caller to rehearse.
Heartwarming start for SPAT Film Society
The SPAT Film Society presented their first film of the year on Saturday evening, February 28, entitled The Ballad of Wallis Island. This 2025 heartwarming British drama/comedy directed by James Griffiths was enjoyed by all and a great choice to start this year’s films. Annual membership to the Film society is $25 for adults and $15 for students, school age child or concession.
SPAT Singers set Dinner Show dates
The annual SPAT Singers Dinner show will be held this year on the evenings of Saturday, June 27 and Saturday, July 4 with a possible afternoon soiree on Sunday, July 5. Audience members will revel in a night of beautiful songs, music, audience participation, and a scrumptious three-course meal, prepared by our members. This is always a favorite with our patrons, so be sure to book early, so you don’t miss out. The Singers, headed by Lindy Sharp, a multi-talented musician, musical director and actor has entitled this year’s show 'Beatles and Other Animals'. We can only guess which musical genres are encompassed in this title!
If you want to be part of this production, now is the perfect time to join the Singers. We meet every Friday night at the CWA Hall at 7:30 pm. All our members sing, but a significant number also play musical instruments, and the Singers show utilises all their talent. Come along for a Friday evening filled with songs, music, socialising and partaking of some great food, prepared by our members.
Rod Lander – the singer, published songwriter, and conductor who founded the SPAT Singers – has written a musical, yet to be named, which he will direct. This musical will showcase his own original songs and will be staged on Friday and Saturday evenings in August.
