Landslip repairs continue on Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Coalcliff
Work will soon start on repairs to a landslip site on Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Coalcliff
Transport for NSW media release: 20 April 2026
Work will soon start on repairs to a landslip site on Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Coalcliff to deliver permanent repairs after significant rainfall in 2024 caused the slope above Stony Creek, just south of Bombora Way, to erode and slip away.
Transport for NSW Executive Director Brendon James said temporary measures were put in place immediately following the impact to prevent further erosion, including installing an asphalt edge that redirected running water away from the slope via a pipe.
“This latest work will involve placing rock to stabilise the slope, clearing vegetation and soil and installing new concrete to support the guardrail,” Mr James said.
“We understand the impacts of these natural disaster events and thank motorists for their ongoing patience while repairs are completed.”

Temporary restoration work was carried out in 2024 to install a pipe to redirect stormwater. At right: Debris for clearing.
Transport for NSW has appointed UniCivil to deliver the work.
Repair work will be carried out weekdays between 7am and 5pm from Tuesday 28 April and is expected to take around seven weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Stop/slow traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place for the duration of the work for the safety of motorists and workers.
One southbound lane will be closed on Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Coalcliff north of Paterson Road for 560 metres.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow the direction of traffic control and signage and allow an additional 10 minutes of travel time.
So far more than $25 million has been provided by the Australian and NSW Governments under the DRFA to complete landslip repairs on Lawrence Hargrave Drive since 2022.
