Iconic 4WD Pajero revealed, pricing and specs confirmed
Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited has announced a new Pajero, designed in Japan under the ‘Grand Charisma’ theme
The much-loved Mitsubishi Pajero is back. (Well, it’ll be in car dealerships by the end of the year.)
The iconic 4WD has been revealed after five years out of the Australian market and Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has now confirmed Australian pricing and specification for the iconic Mitsubishi Pajero’s return.
The new Pajero will have the latest-generation 2.4-litre four-cylinder ‘4N16’ turbo-diesel engine (150kW and 480Nm), an updated eight-speed automatic transmission, and, of particular interest to 4WD enthusiasts, the Pajero will have Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system.
A low-range transfer case is standard, with rear diff lock on all grades.
The CEO of MMAL, Shunichi Kihara, said the Pajero has defined Mitsubishi for four generations.
“It has stood out for its capability, comfort and sheer dependability, showcasing the best Mitsubishi has to offer.
“The all-new Pajero takes the Pajero backstory and modernises it. It maintains its flagship position in the global Mitsubishi hierarchy, combining Pajero’s core attributes and applying it in a way that defines modern ‘Mitsubishi-ness’."
MMAL has already received more than 3000 pre-registrations, Kihara said.
The new Pajero was designed in Japan under the ‘Grand Charisma’ design theme, “to showcase premium craftsmanship and superior quality befitting its status as Mitsubishi’s global flagship”, according to an MMAL statement.
“The front design features a futuristic T-shaped lighting signature. The Dynamic Flow Light on GSR gives the top-grade further personality – for example, when unlocking the vehicle, the lighting animation conveys quickness, as if coming to life. All exterior lighting is by LED.
“A further nod to Pajero heritage exists in the side profile, with the c-pillar aping the first-generation’s ‘roll-bar’.
“The pronounced centre edge of the bonnet creates a three-dimensional effect while supporting exceptional visibility.”
The Pajero range starts with the GLS grade, priced from $68,490 (RRP) as a five-seater or $69,990 (RRP) as a seven-seater.
Going up in terms of standard features onboard, the Exceed is priced from $79,990 (RRP) and the top-shelf GSR is priced from $84,990 (RRP).
GLS grades feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system and 12.3-inch driver display, while Exceed and GSR variants have a 14.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system and 14.3-inch driver display.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are standard, and Mitsubishi Connect – providing a range of services including Automatic Collision Notification and Remote Climate Control – is standard across the range.
The cabin has USB-C ports (supporting up to 27W fast charging) throughout, and a Qi wireless charger (up to 15W fast charging on Qi-enabled smartphones).
Further screen features include standard Multi Around View Monitor and an advanced ‘Bonnet see-through’ camera that digitally aids vehicle placement, allowing for precise placement – particularly off-road.
The all-new Pajero is scheduled to be in Australian showrooms from December 2026.
