New accessible toilet and parking for Gilmore Park

We’re pleased to share that Gilmore Park [in West Wollongong] has received some love in the form of a new accessible toilet block and carpark upgrades.
Earlier this year, Wollongong City Council completed work on the upgrade which saw:
- New accessible Exeloo public toilet installed
- Upgrades to the carpark driveway, including a new accessible parking spot
- Landscaping, including new plants and finishing touches to beautify the space.
The new Exeloo was wrapped in an artwork created by Sydney-based artist Rhiannon Hopley. The artwork draws inspiration from the native plants of the Illawarra area as a way of connecting the built environment to the natural surroundings.
“I wanted to create a work for the accessible amenities block at Gilmore Park that connects our built environment to our natural surroundings,” Rhiannon Hopley said.
“After the devasting impacts of the bushfires, I wanted a way of reclaiming our bush landscape and focusing on the benefits that can come from bushfires through the regrowth and rejuvenation of our native plants - while highlighting the beautiful flora known to the coastal plain, escarpment and foothills of the Illawarra region.
“If you look closely, you will find the names of the local native and low-fuel species intertwining throughout the drawings."
