Nippers end season on a high
By Stuart Brandman, Junior Chairperson at Helensburgh Stanwell Park SLSC
One of the biggest seasons on record has wrapped up for our Nippers, with more than 200 Nippers involved this year and there is plenty to be proud of across the board. From steady skill development to growing confidence in the water and on the sand, the kids showed great progress throughout the season. Week after week, they continued to challenge themselves, support one another, and embrace what surf lifesaving is all about.
This year, our Junior Surf Life Saver of the year award nominees were Bronte White and Noah Papandreas. Both showed outstanding commitment, attitude, and leadership throughout the season, and were very deserving nominees. We were also proud to see Noah Papandreas represent the club at the State Championships,
a great achievement and reward for his effort and dedication.
Our Leadership Camp delivered a strong mix of leadership development, teamwork, hands-on learning, and plenty of laughs along the way.
We finished the season on a high with Transition Skills Day, enjoying excellent conditions that allowed the kids to really put everything they’d learned into practice.
On the back of incredible individual and team fundraising, the club has purchased four new Nipper boards. This is a fantastic outcome and a real credit to the Fundraising Team.
Thank you to our committee, water safety teams, age managers, and the many parents who consistently pitch in, whether carrying boards, setting up tents, cooking snags, or cheering from the sand. Most importantly, thank you to the kids. Your enthusiasm, resilience, and willingness to give things a go are what make Nippers such a special part of the club.
