Plea for volunteers to help care for glowworm tunnel and creek

For more than 30 years, Helensburgh Landcare has kept invasive species at bay. Now the group has issued an urgent call for volunteers to help remove weeds at Wilsons Creek and the Glowworm Tunnel

We live in a beautiful area with wonderful bushland surrounding us that we need to protect from degradation by invasive weeds.

Members of Helensburgh Landcare have been working in our local area since 1993. We have two goals – to remove invasive weeds in our area, and to educate our local residents to recognise invasive plants which are growing in their gardens.

We have two Landcare worksites where we volunteer each month, as well as one Bushcare site.

Over the years a lot of volunteers have come and gone as their life changes, for example, moving out of Helensburgh, other commitments on our workdays, health issues, etc.

We are putting out a plea for more locals to volunteer with removing invasive weeds. We work at Wilsons Creek Waterfall, the Old Station/Glowworm Tunnel site, and our Bushcare is at Helensburgh Creek where the Old Mine Doctor’s Surgery is located.

Visit www.helensburghlandcare.org.au for membership information, lists of problem weeds on the Be Weed Wise page and a page on our worksites.
