Our May 31 pointscore was an absolutely incredible day at Wombarra Reef, where we scored some epic conditions across all our divisions. It’s not often Wombarra fires up with the last Pointscore held there three years ago according to local folklore. It was on for young and old with the chance for many to try for the green room or take advantage anyway possible. Congrats to Mannix for taking the win in A grade and Shyla Short in Open Women’s.

Wave of the day went to young Mara Giddings in Junior Girls Parent Assist, scoring 9.4 and backing it up with an 8.4, resulting in the highest heat total of the year so far: 17.8. Then there was Austin Wilson charging in the Mixed 10 and Under Division scoring an 8.67 for this wave and backing up an 8.00 scored earlier in the heat. There was much debate about sending the youngest age group out into the hollow waves breaking into shallow sand – but they more than rose to the occasion with this group showing ability well beyond their young years. Everyone was cheering and frothing from the shore.

A number of our junior and senior members travelled north after the event to Coffs Harbour for Surfing NSW State titles. Well done to all and especially Talina Wilson taking the win in the Over 30’s Women for the second year running.

On June 7 we hosted the inaugural NSW RSL Winter Chill Surf Comp. Coordinated by the NSW RSL and Coledale RSL, this event involves former and existing defence personnel competing in a tag team format. There were nine teams competing from all different defence disciplines, currently serving and past veterans of all ages were involved. It was a pleasure to coordinate the event and inspiring to be around these amazing people.

Our squad put in an incredible effort over the June long weekend in the Sandon Point Team’s Event. We finished in 4th place overall, claiming $2000 in prize money. Incredible performances from everyone and it was awesome to see all the crew there cheering the team on! Congratulations to North Steyne Boardriders getting the win! Big thanks to all the Sandon Point Boardriders crew for putting on a fantastic event!
