CWA enjoys trip to parliament
By Jan Johnston of Stanwell Park CWA
Maryanne Stuart, Member for Heathcote, joined our meeting last month and gave us an insight into her role in politics, local issues being addressed, and how we can seek support for the CWA.
Maryanne arranged for CWA members to attend a parliamentary sitting day in Macquarie Street.
A tour, a light lunch and the experience of question time were all eye-opening. The procedures were animated and robust, and gave us a greater understanding of the work our MPs undertake in raising and resolving issues. “ORDER!” has become our new favourite word.
In March, we hosted a meat and cake raffle for the Scarborough-Wombarra Bowlo. Many people were involved in the preparation but, on the night, it was all fun. There was so much generosity and support for the CWA as we sold tickets and raffled loads of prizes, which included meat and vegetable trays supplied by the venue and, of course, our beautiful cakes.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Tania Brown attended our May meeting and I was happy to report on our proposed visit to the Sutherland Toy Restoration Centre at Jannali.
If you would like to join us, we’re at the CWA hall, 15 The Drive Stanwell Park on the first Tuesday of the month at 10am.
