Overgrown vegetation on Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Austinmer
Residents and cyclists will have noticed overgrown vegetation on LHD between Toxteth and Boyce avenues in Austinmer. This makes cycling a hazardous activity. The TVC contacted Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart with concerns about this, and she forwarded the matter on to Minister for Roads Jenny Aitchison. As a result, the TVC has been informed that Wollongong City Council will put a plan in place to cut back the vegetation in early 2026. There are several actions required, including writing to residents and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) road access permit before this can take place. It is anticipated that the work will be done at night when traffic volumes are light.

Thirroul Skatepark
The latest from Wollongong City Council is that with the W.F. Jackson site now adopted, next steps will be to ‘‘refine the project planning to incorporating feedback received during community engagement. This will help finalise scoping of the new skate park, technical specifications and budget refinements to enable progression of procurement of a suitable contractor to design and construct the new skatepark in 2026/27 financial year’’.

Have your say in what's next for WCC pools and indoor sports facilities
Wollongong City Council has an online survey relating to its pools and sports centres. From information gathered, WCC will develop a 20-year Aquatic and Indoor Sport Strategy. This strategy will guide how WCC will manage community needs and demands, safety and accessibility of these facilities.
The TVC encourages residents to complete this important survey to help WCC get a full picture as to how residents use the pools, leisure and indoor sports centres, what residents love about them and where people would like to see improvement. If you love these important resources, please have your say before the survey closes on Sunday, February 8. The survey can be found via this link.
Bulli bypass
The TVC contacted Maryanne Stuart requesting a copy of the report upon which TfNSW based its decision to not continue to investigate bypass options via the escarpment to the M1 Princes Motorway or Bulli Pass. TfNSW stated that as a result of the steep terrain and history of underground coalmining, such construction would very difficult, disruptive and expensive. Maryanne has asked TfNSW to consult with the community and conduct information sessions about this important issue. Watch this space.
TVC meets March 1
The next TVC meeting will be on Sunday, March 1, at 4pm at TRIPS Hall, in Railway Parade, Thirroul. All welcome.
