“The NSW RFS Group 5 Brigades are excited to be part of this year’s i98FM Illawarra Convoy," said the Group Captain of Illawarra/Sutherland, Craig Robertson, who is urging the public to support their bid in tomorrow's auction to be in ‘The Lead Truck Pack’.
The Convoy begins at Appin GM3 (Westcliff colliery), travels through Maddens Plains, down Mt Ousley and via Wollongong's southern suburbs, ending at Shellharbour Regional Airport with a family fun day. Vehicles will be placed in order of the amount donated in the Lead Truck Bidding.
Funds will go to the Illawarra Community Foundation (ICF), which helps families with loved ones being treated for potentially life-threatening illnesses.
The convoy began in 2005 with 110 bikes and 100 trucks; last year 672 bikes and 715 trucks took part. To date, the event – which today claims the title of largest truck and motorbike Convoy in the Southern Hemisphere – has raised $27,693,636.
Lead Truck bidding for this year’s Convoy is scheduled to be held tomorrow (Thursday, November 13) on-air during i98FM Breakfast with Christian & Bella, and Convoy founder and now Community Ambassador, Marty Haynes.

“I will be joining forces with Helensburgh RFS, Farmborough Heights RFS and Austinmer RFS for a fantastic day of community spirit, support, and generosity,” Craig said.
“Every donation to the Convoy helps make a real difference for local kids and families.”
