Call for sighted volunteers to captain tandem bikes
Powered by volunteers, Exsight Tandems Illawarra organises regular rides along the Illawarra's coastal cycleways
A team of visually impaired riders and their friends participated in the Ride4Rotary last Sunday to help raise money for Southern Youth and Family Services.
“We are in a volunteer group called Exsight, which gives blind people the opportunity to exercise, socialise and enjoy the outdoors, which they really appreciate,” said Rowan Huxtable, one of the riders.
Exsight has a small fleet of tandem pushbikes and ebikes. It organises rides most days of the week.
“We are looking for sighted volunteers to captain our tandems. It is not a set time commitment – you can just do the rides when it suits you. It has been very rewarding for me," Rowan said.
Anybody interested can contact Geoff Stratton on 0416 612 675 or Rowan Huxtable on 0473 225 855.
Exsight is a registered charity founded in 2008; visit the website for more information.
Ride4Rotary took place on Sunday, 13 September as part of the final day of the annual Ride Wollongong festival of cycling.
